CB450 may be on the way out

So the work continues. The CB450 still won't run right. Even after the new gas, yadda yadda.

While pushing it home several blocks today (again!), I passed by a fellow working in his yard. Turns out, he was a certified technician with Rick Case (when Rick Case sold bikes). He has worked on tons of Hondas. After a brief inspection, he gave me the low down:

Valve cover seal leaking bad and probably the head gasket too (there is gas in the oil). Carbs are way out of adjustment as well. "Boy", I said, "how much would you charge me to fix this thing?"

In the process of talking out the maintenance deal, he mentioned that it is really a collector's item and he knew of several people who would give me a $1000.00 right now (not bad considering what I paid and have only put a bit into it since then). A friend of his would definitely be interested and he owns a bike shop out in Ravenna.

The wheels started turning (in my head, not on the CB) as I looked at what is becoming more of a project than I thought. All I want is a nice, easy, good running, starter bike for Lori. The CB is turning out to not fit that bill.

Now, I hate to admit defeat as I am well known for making killer deals when I get a burr in my saddle to do something. All is not lost yet. The shop owner in Ravenna and I will be talking about the CB and how we might trade this "exquisite vintage collectors bike" in for something along the lines of a mid-80s Rebel that is turn-key ready.

    Stay tuned...
